Quick Facts
What you need to know about visas and entry:
Visa vs. Entry Permit:
There are two main types of “visas.” Entry permits, such as the US ESTA, Canada’s eTA, the UK’s ETA, and the EU’s ETIAS (set to launch in 2025), allow for short-term stays, typically lasting no longer than 90 days. On the other hand, traditional visas, like tourist, business, or student visas, are required for longer stays.
Online Applications:
Many countries now offer convenient online visa applications for a smoother process.
Processing Times:
For example, the UK-ETA decision came through in just one hour. Generally, ESTA and ETA processing takes about 3 days, but it can vary depending on the authority’s workload.

The Details
Mastering the Entry Hurdles
Travel effortlessly! With proper preparation and the right documentation, you can confidently navigate entry requirements and begin your journey without complications.
Do I need a Visa?
Entry requirements depend on several factors: destination country, purpose of travel, duration, and nationality. Remember, you might need an electronic entry permit even for a transit stop – such as a layover in the US or Canada.
Insider Tip: Use our free visa checker to quickly find the right visa requirements. Note: Always double-check this information with official websites, such as the embassy. ABC Travel Service is also happy to assist with information.
Validity
The ETA, ESTA, eTA, and ETIAS are linked to the travel document used for registration. They become invalid once the passport used expires, or after 2 years for the US ESTA, 5 years for the Canadian eTA, 2 years for the UK ETA, and 3 years for the EU ETIAS.
At the airport
Do I need to bring a printed copy of my ETA, ESTA, eTA, or ETIAS to the airport? Generally, no. These electronic visas are stored in the entry authorities’ system. However, it’s still a good idea to carry a copy for your convenience. This differs from traditional visas, which must always be presented in physical form.
Insider Tip: Make digital copies of all important documents (passport, visa, flight tickets) and store them securely in the cloud. That way, you can access them from anywhere.
Vaccinations
For entry into some countries, especially in tropical regions, various vaccinations are recommended. In rare cases, they are mandatory for entry. ABC Travel provides up-to-date information on current rules. You can also view the recommendations from the German Foreign Office at the following link:

Travel Insurance
In many countries, proof of valid travel insurance is required. Ideally, check the requirements directly when booking your trip.
Insider Tip: Many credit card insurances are quite restrictive and only cover the cardholder. ABC Travel Service offers significantly more comprehensive insurance options through Germany’s award-winning provider, Hanse Merkur.
